Who We Are

Who We Are

Jay gilbert

co-founder, digital strategy, analytics, creative

As a teenager in the Pacific Northwest, Jay smuggled his Canon F-1 into rock concerts to get the perfect shot of the likes of Queen, Van Halen, Elton John and Cheap Trick. After college, he toured as a musician gaining invaluable experience in what it takes to create and promote an album. He later translated that knowledge as an executive with Universal Music, Sony Music, Fox Home Entertainment International and Warner Music Group.

Jay moved to San Francisco and finally to Los Angeles for Universal where he worked for 18 years, most recently as VP New Media and Online Marketing for Universal Music Enterprises [UMe].

It is this unique perspective as a musician, music executive and fan that makes his approach to Digital Strategy and Online Marketing so artist-friendly.

- In 2004 while at Universal, Jay launched the first digital-only label, responsible for all aspects of the operations. The groundbreaking label was featured on NPR, Billboard Magazine, Nights With Alice Cooper, and in the NY Times.

- Jay created the industry's first sheet music + album download (for the Grammy award-winning “Fingerprints” album by Peter Frampton)

- Received the NARM Award for Best Online Marketing Campaign (for Ron White)

- Created and executed unique online marketing plans for Nirvana, The Police, KISS, Motley Crue, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Elton John, Styx, Rob Zombie, Johnny Cash, Guns ‘N Roses, Smokey Robinson, Tears For Fears, Rick Springfield, Lisa Loeb, Ringo Starr, Ron White, Peter Frampton, The Temptations, Amy Grant, Melissa Etheridge, The Accidentals, Travis Tritt and many, many others.

- Guest lecturer at UCLA, USC, Columbia, University of Washington, Los Angeles College of Music, Chico State, Biola, Portland State and Hofstra University Music Business Programs. Guest speaker at NARAS (Grammy.com), Music Business Association, Folk Alliance and FARM (Folk, Americana, Roots, Music).

- Voting member of the Recording Academy

EMILY CAGAN

marketing

Emily Cagan was destined to work in the family business, which is the business of music.  Her entire family was involved in the industry in some way and she knew she wanted to continue the tradition and put her stamp in the music industry herself.

After seeing a classified ad in Music Connection magazine for an intern at a “small record company” called Rhino Records, it was time for her to get to work.  Her internship in their Sales Department lead to a permanent role, which began her tenure in the catalog world she would become immersed in and giving her the honor of working with some of the greatest artists of all time.  She eventually segued to becoming a Product Manager.  She assisted in and/or created various projects herself, including the “Just Can’t Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the ‘80s” series, overseeing catalog releases for such artists as James Taylor, Black Sabbath, Foreigner, The Doobie Brothers, Pantera, Alice Cooper, and many others. She also had the opportunity to work as Producer on various projects such as the “Youth Gone Wild: Heavy Metal Hits of the ‘80s” series, “Vh1: The Big ‘80s” series, “MTV: The First 1000 Years-Rock,” “Feel Like Makin’ Love: Romantic Power Ballads,” among others, as well as best-of compilations for Faith No More, Mr. Big, Dokken, Winger, and INXS.

When her time at Rhino came to an end, she joined Universal Music Enterprises, where she was responsible for marketing the catalog from artists such as Bon Jovi, Elton John, Bryan Adams, Anthrax, Cinderella, Sheryl Crow, Garbage, Keane, Night Ranger, Tonic, and Whitesnake, among many others, as well as brand new albums from Rick Springfield, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, and Def Leppard.

In recent years, she was grateful to join forces with her former UMe colleagues at Label Logic, where she continues her product management pursuits by providing the same kind of care, organization, and passion to their independent music clientele.

TESTIMONIALS

"Doc McGhee calls Jay Gilbert and Jeff Moskow “dedicated” and “smart,” and appreciates how they share their knowledge with his staff. “That’s why I took them in right away. I said, ‘You get all my acts, fuck everybody else.’”

MIKE “CHEEZ” BROWN [TRAVIS TRITT]

"I wish I could go back in time and have you guys work every record I've done!"

BEN BARNES

"Jay, Jeff and Emily are as thoughtful as they are passionate, as knowledgable as they are supportive and as encouraging and professional as they are kind. They go above and beyond at every single turn to make sure they’re making the most of the moment, the relationship and the music."

BRETT JAMES

“Working with Label Logic is amazing. Their experience and hustle are unparalleled. When you match that with honesty, integrity and great personalities, you can’t go wrong. I truly value their friendships and have learned a lot from their brilliance.”

LOUD & PROUD RECORDS

“Jay and Jeff are like your marketing and sales team at a major record company, without the complications of a major record company. The Label Logic team is creative, knowledgable, quick to react and highly efficient. I had the pleasure of working with Label Logic who I consulted with for ideas and input across all areas of the project. Their execution and follow up was conducted with a level of professionalism that only comes from many years of experience and taking pride in their work. The best.”

WAYNE SHARP / CRUSH MALIBU MUSIC MANAGEMENT

“Jeff and Jay were incredible to work with. Not only did they have thoughtful creative input on designing the rollout plan, they wrangled assets and ideas… lined up plans, and consistently moved the ball down the field to execution on everything. They kept the entire rollout/timeline well organized and communicated details effectively to the entire team so we were all on the same page. We even received a nice followup report that included stats/metrics and a recap on everything that had been done. Highly recommend these two to consult on any release.”

CHARLES VERGARA / CV ARTIST MANAGEMENT

“They should erect a statue of you two for your work on that project!”

TY TAYLOR [VINTAGE TROUBLE]

"Label Logic is like an expert rodeo cowboy breaking records constantly to handle uncharted twist, turns and bucks. I think I can speak on behalf of my band when I say from moment one, their energy was undoubtedly to be trusted, at moment two, our first partnered release, their knowledge, connections and savvy proved their worth in numbers and the from every moment after, they have shown an uncanny ability to access, predict, decide and execute to perfection. True assets to any team. #blessed”

"Don't know where I’d be without Jay and Jeff. They took all the loose ends of my career and helped me focus everything into one big, cohesive, fun package. The resulting interface with my fans commercially AND personally has never been more direct and rewarding. Over the years I have come to truly value their’s as a reliable voice of sanity and smarts amidst this ever-changing, topsy-turvy music industry."

RICK SPRINGFIELD

"Jeff and Jay are the most passionate and committed A&R guys I have ever met in my 50+ years in the business. I have worked with them over the course of 5 CD's and they are always intelligent, informed and innovative as well as being awesome human beings."
